Fashion Friday: Poncho Sweater Love

poncho-2Bsweater
Can you believe we are over half way finished with February?! But TGIF. The last couple of weeks have been so busy that I’m totally in survival mode until the weekends. I try to do as little as possible and just relax. Ya, it’s not really happening. I just signed up my little girl for Kindergarten. wha what?! I can’t believe this phase of my life is starting, I definitely feel waay too young.

A lot of my style is stuff I can go around all day in running errands with my kids. It’s hard because I usually end the day with banana and boogers smeared all over my shoulder and arm and spending $80 on a top that has to be dry cleaned doesn’t make much sense. Enter cheap easy to wash and wear  clothes. Unfortunately, cheap and easy doesn’t always mean fashionable {thank you Clinton and Stacy} so I’m all for mixing and matching.

Take this fun poncho sweater I posted over on Made From Pinterest a couple weeks ago. Can you believe I made it in less than 10 minutes?

In fact, I made three… One out of french terry knit, ponte de roma, and spandex knit

 I love that I instantly have some color and pattern over jeans and a plain tee.

They are comfortable and hold up to multiple washings, yet are totally trendy. {More Buffalo Check Please?}

{My photographer for this fashion post is pretty awesome and you should book her for all your photography needs!}

You need:
1 yard fabric {I LOVE how easy Girl Charlee knits are to use. I made one with French Terry, Ponte de Roma & Jersey Knit}
Sewing Machine and/or Serger
Scissors

  1. Lay your fabric so that the longest side is folded in half. This fabric is 60″ wide by 36″ long so when it’s folded in half it should be 36″ wide by 30″ long.
  2. Cut down the middle of just the top layer. If you cut both layers it will be ruined!
  3. {optional} serge all around the edges, rounding edges as you go. With Girl Charlee knits they won’t fray so you can leave them unfinished if you like.
  4. Fold back in half, right sides together, and sew from the middle to the bottom of the fabric to create your arm holes.
