I wanted them to coordinate with his campaign dresser so I knew I’d probably be making them myself. I measured my wall and decided I wanted to center three foot long shelves. I bought some of the EKBY Valter brackets from Ikea but the shelves only came in 31″ or 46″. I also knew I could make my own for less! Here’s how you can make your own.
Then I stained them with my favorite Minwax stain, dark walnut. I think stain color is one of those things you find what you like and stick with it for everything. Or, maybe it’s that one quart lasts forever so you use what you have instead of buying a different one each time…
After the stain was dry, I applied a coat of Tough Coat. I love that it’s completely odorless and dries in seconds!
I knew I could find a bunch of cute accessories for the shelves at Gordman’s and I found the perfect complements to his rust orange, navy and aqua nursery decor.
If you don’t have a “Sophie” giraffe, then you should! I didn’t have it with Eliza and it was one of my first purchases when I found I was pregnant again.
I’m in love with how his room is coming together. Stay tuned for the full nursery reveal next week!
